Ask me anything!

I am working on a few informational FAQ posts for my blog. I'm often contacted by other photographers who have various questions about everything from how I got started, what equipment I use, where I went to school, etc. This is a project I am working on in my spare time but now is your chance to ask me anything! I will gather questions and answer my favorites or what I think are the most beneficial.

Having a photography business is a lot more complicated than one might think. You may think all you need is a camera and a website and you're in business but it has taken me awhile to get where I am and I am still constantly learning. Keep in mind that when you're looking at a photographer's pricing, it may seem like you're paying a lot of money to someone just to show up and take pictures. We've invested thousands of dollars in equipment and software, have lots of business costs, spend hours processing images, and it has taken years to gain the knowledge and experience to get where we are. Photoshop? That's a whole 'nother art in itself! As artists, we love what we do and it truly fulfills our passion. I am lucky that I am able to make a living doing what I love but most artists aren't able to become millionaires. Except maybe Jessica Claire. :) Her current rates start at $15,000 per wedding and $2,500 for kids sessions.

With DSLR prices becoming more and more affordable, it may seem easy to jump right into business or learn photography but ask any non-photographer that owns a DSLR and they will tell you that it's not as easy as it looks!

Feel free to shoot me some questions or leave them in the comments below. Stay tuned for the FAQ answers coming soon!
