First Day of School!

First day recap: Owen's first day went great! He goes to school from 9 am to 3:45 pm so Aidan and I waited for him at 3:55 at his bus stop. Destiny was about to get off the bus and Owen was nowhere to be seen. As soon as Destiny saw me, it clicked in her head that she needed to get Owen off the bus. She went back and found him while the bus driver patiently waited. Since it is a busy street, there were cards lined up in each direction a block long. I got really nervous wondering if he was on the bus or not. Then he appeared and came running to me with a big grin on his face! I walked over and thanked Destiny and told her mom how much I appreciated her helping Owen out on his first day. We walked back home and he told me all about the library and all of the cool animal books he saw. We had a surprise waiting for him when he got home- some freshly baked oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! I've always wanted to be the kind of mom that had yummy homemade treats waiting for my kids when they got home from school. I was so proud of him and couldn't tell him enough times. He said he didn't cry and wasn't scared and asked me how many days until he got to go back! Aidan on the other hand, had a pretty rough day without his best bud around! He's normally pretty independent but he clung to me pretty much all day. I tried to keep him as occupied as I could and gave him lots of extra hugs but he was definitely missing his brother! When I told Owen that Aidan missed him while he was gone, Aidan chimed in, "I did not!"

--------------------------------------

He did it. He got on the bus and he's now at his first day of school! It all happened so fast... We met our neighbor Destiny at the bus stop today. She is in 3rd grade and was giving me all kinds of advice and pointers which was very helpful. The bus stop is on a very busy street so Destiny told Owen that when it stopped they had to hurry and get on. That's her in the photo making sure Owen got on safely. I wasn't able to get more than a couple of photos because I wanted to make sure he was okay. He scurried onto the bus and before I could even see him take a seat, the bus was off! I didn't cry. I was more in shock because it happened so quickly. I was a little sad as Aidan and I walked away back home without him. Of course, I'll be thinking about him all day.

Olivia - how fun! I'm surprised you didn't follow his bus to school *grin* that's what I did for the first WEEK of school LOL.

I get to drive Max to school now, which I love doing.

Good job momma!
